Music isn’t just something I like to do. It’s something I have to do,"
says the 24 year old singer/songwriter/producer. With a father from Guyana, South America and a U.S. Army-born mother, Zach’s multicultural upbringing was filled with a diverse blend of musical influences. “I grew up with everything from reggae to classical to rock to old school funk, but what has always stuck with me is R&B. It’s the root of my music. When I write, it’s my starting point, and along the way some strange musical element grabs my attention and latches on for the ride.”
The singer’s debut project, Voyager, is a sci-fi influenced R&B and pop album featuring 16 original tracks that take listeners on the journey of a young man of the future. The soundscape is packed with smooth and eclectic songs about relationships, pressure, aspirations, and social issues. “My music has high level stories that are easy to follow, but within the songs is a lower level of ambiguity. There is a sense of openness for the listener to interpret the music and lyrics however they want to. Music means something different to everyone, and that’s what I love about it.”
Voyager is available now across the web in both hardcopy and digital formats at the singer’s official website, zachkarl.com, iTunes, and Amazon. The album is also available for stream at sites including Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, Grooveshark, and last.fm.
Zach’s musical influences include Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Michael Jackson, Erykah Badu, Sade, Paul Hardcastle, Justin Timberlake and Coldplay.
